Review a URL before creating a QR code
Tools to use
A scannable code is useless if its destination is wrong, while a correct URL can become unreadable when margins are cropped or printing is too small. Separate URL inspection from image readability. Start with fictional example.com data and inspect the string without visiting it.
Split the URL to inspect the destination
Enter the example into URL parsing. It reports hostname example.com, port 8443 and path /catalog, separating query and fragment. Structured inspection is clearer than finding a domain inside a long string. No request is made, so this does not establish server existence, certificate validity or publication status.
https://example.com:8443/catalog?tag=book&tag=gift&q=red+bag#detailsIn https://example.com@other.example/path, the text before @ is user information; the hostname is other.example. A familiar name near the beginning is not enough to identify the destination. Avoid credentials or secret authentication values in printed codes, which distribute the encoded string to anyone who can read it.
Do not silently collapse repeated query keys
tag appears twice, with book then gift. The parser preserves these ordered entries. Adding appends another value; setting replaces values for that key. Whether the receiver uses the first, last or all entries depends on its protocol, not a rule this tool can infer.
Form-style query decoding reads q=red+bag as red bag; a literal plus is represented differently, such as %2B. Reconstructing after edits can change encoding spelling. Even equivalent meaning can alter signed URL bytes, so do not casually normalize or reorder signed links. Review the reconstructed URL before encoding it.
Generation and scan readability are separate checks
Try the checked URL with size 320, correction M and margin 4. Generation encodes the string without visiting it; success does not certify a safe site. During a scanning check, inspect the decoded URL before opening it where possible, including domain, path and query.
The quiet zone separates the symbol from its surroundings. Margin 4 means four modules, not four pixels across the whole image. Cropping it or placing a tight border changes the conditions after generation. Preserve the zone in the final layout and printing context.
Longer data can make a fixed-size code denser
Long query parameters increase encoded data. More modules inside the same width make each smaller. Higher error correction can require more space, so it is not an automatic readability improvement. Remove genuinely unnecessary URL data, then choose size for the intended use without deleting required information.
Reading an enlarged screen preview does not test a small printed code. Check final dimensions, print quality, distance, lighting and devices. SVG scales well, but distortion or cropping can still break the result. Do not treat error correction as permission to cover the code with decoration; establish reliable reading without it first.
Review both the string and the final image
Keep the intended URL, generation settings and final placed image together for review. Check for an old image after a URL change or a leftover proofing address. A shortened link also introduces ownership and future redirect concerns outside this tool's guarantees.
If destination publication needs checking, perform that separately through authorized browsing. URL parsing and QR generation prepare data without network access; reachability and destination content are separate checks. This lets you inspect structure and readability without automatically visiting an unfamiliar input.
After scanning, verify the decoded destination
Successful generation and a scanner reaction do not prove the intended URL was encoded. A typo or missing query can be faithfully stored. Inspect the decoded host, path and parameters before navigation. SheepDev does not visit the target, so generation does not verify availability or access permissions.
For paper distribution, test at the actual printed size, checking quiet-zone clipping, glare and blur. Higher error correction is not unlimited protection and interacts with data density. A long URL printed small creates fine modules. Shortening the input should mean choosing an appropriate controlled URL, not automatically introducing an unknown shortening service.
Printed QR contents do not update themselves when a destination changes. Managed redirects require a separate arrangement; this tool does not issue redirect URLs. Consider human-readable directions or a URL for people unable to scan. Keep the source string, image and physical scan check together to avoid distributing the wrong version.
