Arrange equally spaced cards with Flexbox and Grid

Tools to use

A simple three-card row can fail when the last item wraps or a long URL stretches the container. Before shaving pixels off card widths, inspect how the parent lays out children. Grid helps express rows and columns; Flexbox helps arrange items along an axis. Use the preview to isolate each setting's effect.

Start with three columns and a 16px gap

Select Grid, three columns, one row, gap 16 and three preview items. repeat(3, minmax(0, 1fr)) divides the space left after gaps equally. With 960px available inside the container, two gaps consume 32px, leaving 928px for three tracks. This differs from adding gaps after three 33.333% widths.

Column declaration
display: grid;
grid-template-columns: repeat(3, minmax(0, 1fr));
gap: 16px;

Increase the preview to five items: two move to the next row. Two columns produce three rows. The configured row count defines explicit tracks, not an item limit. Test four or five items as well as a perfectly filled three-item example to understand overflow placement.

Flexbox changes the question you are answering

Flexbox exposes direction and alignment along its axes: row or column. The generated flex-wrap:wrap permits wrapping but does not itself create three equal columns. Child widths and flex-basis influence how many fit. Generated CSS configures the parent, not every style of your cards.

space-between distributes leftover space between items, so a final row with two items can spread far apart. Use Grid when column alignment across rows matters, or try Flexbox for natural-width toolbar items. Choose by the relationship you want aligned, not by which technology sounds newer.

Short samples hide long-content problems

Once equal boxes align, test real long headings, unbreakable URLs, images and two-line buttons. minmax(0, 1fr) allows a track to shrink toward zero, but does not automatically wrap every child. Find which content demands extra width and apply appropriate wrapping or internal scrolling there.

align-items:stretch can equalize outer heights within a row, but does not automatically align buttons inside cards. Outer sizing and inner layout are separate. Check the parent tracks first, then internal vertical arrangement and spacing, rather than repeatedly changing a parent gap to fix a child problem.

Choose readable columns rather than preserving three

With a sidebar, a 1440px screen does not provide 1440px to cards. Measure the actual parent and check text and controls. Narrow regions may need two or one column. The generator does not create a full set of responsive media queries; integrate its base CSS with your site's width rules.

Stacking can be better than shrinking text and gaps to force three columns. Test around 320px, zoom and long translations for page-wide overflow. Give code or wide tables their own handling rather than making the whole page scroll horizontally. Changing columns need not hide information.

Keep visual and reading order coherent

row-reverse or column-reverse changes visual layout without necessarily changing document order. Check keyboard tabbing and screen-reader order against what is visible. Attractive placement and understandable interaction both matter. Consider correct source order before using CSS to reorder substantially.

Try three items for the base, five for wrapping, real long content, narrow widths, then keyboard interaction. Changing everything at once hides causes. Build a minimal layout here and add real-page constraints one by one to distinguish parent width, gaps and child content.

Replace identical boxes with realistic content

After three preview boxes align, test one long title, a large numeric result and several action buttons in the real implementation. Short numbered boxes hide wrapping and height differences. Container alignment does not automatically align buttons inside cards. Generated CSS is a starting point for outer layout, not a complete implementation of real card contents.

Long URLs or unbroken code can overflow correctly sized columns. Hiding all overflow may hide necessary content. Wrap ordinary prose and use labeled internal scrolling where code or tables need it, while avoiding whole-page horizontal overflow. The generator's short sample fitting is not evidence that long user content fits.

Check wide layout, actual space beside the sidebar, narrow stacking, enlarged text and keyboard order. CSS visual reordering can diverge from Tab order. Ensure every action remains reachable. Spacing, column count and reading order interact; finish by testing real data, not merely pasting the generated declarations.
